PWA Golf Outing takes a hit from the weather then hits it big for the Children's Hospital
(a special thanks to Jim Innes of Carrier Class Group for taking these photos!) view slide show of all photosview album of all photosThe Pennsylvania Wireless Association would like to thank everyone for another successful charity golf event on Sept 22nd. As many of you know mother nature has not been kind the past couple months and it forced us to postpone this event two weeks. For those that attended you would never have guessed this was a rain date.

The fun started the night before at the Bears den, with over 70 people showing up for appetizers, drinks, and catching up on the wonderful world of wireless. With this years shotgun start pushed back to 11am it allowed our members to close down the Bears Den the night before and still allow sufficient rest for a great day.
Around 9am the first players started to arrive to small snacks, coffee, and pick up their coolers or backpacks, provided my the association this year. Shortly before 11am all the carts were loaded up with 130 of our members and beverages, provided by Celerity and the PWA. Two new additions to this years tournament were a Bloody Mary Station, provided my Global Tower Partners, and a cigar station by Sitelink. The Advantage Engineer team was busy grilling up dogs for the turn and the Carrier Class Group was snapping photos of our golf pro's.
Around 430pm the golf came to a close and our members made there way to the pavilion for steaks, awards, and raffle prizes. This year the PWA raffled off 3 LED TV's, 2 Blu-ray Players, Bose headphones, and provided golf clubs to the winning groups. Taking home this years PWA CUP was the Primus foursome made up of Adam Jaffe ( Lucent), Kevin Frey ( Lucent), Josh Dolbin (Andrews), and Adam Cummins ( Primus). Second Place was the Capital Telecom Group of Bert Stern ( Capital), Mike Mooney ( Capital), and the Russell Brothers. ( Lucien Group).
The main reason for this annual tournament is to raise money for the Penn State Childrens Hospital. This year Ashley Kane came out to speak to the association and accept the PWA's check for $18,000!! With this donation the Association eclisped over $100,000 in the 6 years we have been hosting this event. This could not have been done without our members!! Thank you!!

Over 250 Toys Donated at the Holiday Social
I wanted to thank you all for the continual support of the association and our events. We are so grateful for all the members who took the time to donate toys and network on Nov 11, 2010 at the Toys for Tots drive in Fort Washington. The association is only as successful as it members make it, thank you for sustaining the association.
Our members donated over 250 toys this year, a record breaking donation. The Marines are truly thankful for the support. If you want to volunteer to support the Marines or donate more toys, please follow this link.
The event drew over 150 members to MaGerks Pub. This volume is a true testament to how dedicated the membership is to making the PWA events a success. Included in the 150 participants, we had a broad representation of companies in attendance from program management companies, contractors, site acquisition, legal, engineering and material suppliers. Also, helping add value to our events and the association we had good representation from our local carrier; thank you to Clearwire, Metro PCS, Montana Wireless, ATT, T-Mobile and Verizon. The support is a huge help to the organization and we look forward to more support in the future.
The event was a large success due to the help of T-Mobile Towers, who supported the event as our sponsor. Their contribution paid for the complementary snacks that were available though the evening. I also wanted to note that a few companies helped support financially with picking up a few tads. Smartlink, Primus, Advantage Engineering, Privity and WFI all picked up the tab for the first few hours of the event. We are truly blessed to have generous companies to support the networking function of our association.
We are planning a busy January 2011 with our second annual food drive in Pittsburg and our third annual utility wireless forum. The food drive will be on Jan 11 in Cranberry, PA and there will be a “food weigh in” contest for the person who brings the most food! The utility/wireless forum will be focused on SmartGrid and how it will be impacting the wireless and utility industries. We are currently seeking sponsors and exhibitors to add more value to the members who will be in attendance. Please see our web site for further details or please call me.
Thank you again for the support and have safe and happy holidays in the next few weeks.
Take Care,
Chris Pleibel
